Sappi North America Inc. in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Maine has expanded their Paper Scientist Patch program to the national level. The first-of-its-kind program teaches girls the science and technology of the pulp and paper industry. The program began small, first welcoming Girl Scouts from around the State of Maine five years ago. Those interested attended a paper scientist expo at Sappi's Technology Center, taking part in such activities as papermaking and recycling to earn their Paper Scientist Patch. With the recent addition of the Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) as a partner, the Girl Scout patch program has now been able to expand nationally. Sappi North America is a leading producer and supplier of diversified paper, packaging products, and pulp.
