Liberty Coca-Cola Intros Paper Packaging to Replace Plastic Rings

Philadelphia-based Liberty Coca-Cola Beverages recently took the wraps off its new KeelClip paperboard packaging system, designed to replace the plastic ring holders on can multi-packs. Liberty teamed up with fiber-based consumer packaging provider Graphic Packing International to manufacture the new packaging. The KeelClip machinery, which has been installed at one of Liberty's New York production facilities, has already been distributed via other local Coca-Cola bottlers across Europe. The transition is expected to remove approximately 75,000 pounds of plastic packaging annually from the supply chain for more than three million cases across Liberty's service area, which includes Philadelphia, New York City, and parts of Connecticut, Delaware, and New Jersey.
