Octopus Energy Generation has formed a joint venture with solar- and wind-power electricity developers RES to run the Welsh operations of multinational paper-maker Kimberly Clark on green hydrogen. HYRO, the combined entity's £3 million participation vehicle has submitted an application to electrolyze hydrogen with renewably sourced electricity and then feed the gas into the manufacturers’ paper mill at Coleshill, Flint. The carbon-free hydrogen will be burned to heat a new hydrogen-ready boiler, which will be located in the mill's interior. It will replace the existing boiler, which is fueled by only natural gas. Kimberly-Clark, makers in Europe of such brands as Huggies and Kleenex, announced earlier this spring that HYRO will undertake a similar refit at its mill in Northfleet, Kent.
