Smurfit Westrock Merger Creates Latest Packaging Giant

Recycling collector and major fiber end user Westrock and European packaging firm Smurfit Kappa recently completed their merger, and the new conglomerate has begun trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SW. The deal between Ireland-headquartered Smurfit Kappa and Atlanta-based Westrock was first announced in 2023. Now, across 40 countries, the combined company operates more than 60 paper mills and approximately 500 converting facilities. Both companies have paper mills in the United States. Westrock operates 14 containerboard mills and additional paper and pulp mills, while Smurfit Kappa brings two paper mills in Texas to the conglomerate.
