Colorado Avoids Trading Plastic Problems for Paper Problems

Earlier this month, Colorado avoided a deluge of single-use paper bags and the environmental impacts they incur when a key legislative committee voted down House Bill 25-1051. The legislation sought to repeal paper bag fees. While paper is recyclable, the Boulder State's overall recycling rate for all materials is very low at 16 percent. "Even if it is recycled, each time a paper bag is recycled the paper fibers degrade, limiting their overall lifespan," notes the article's author.
