UVA Health Launches New Ecofriendly Medication Bottles

UVA Health pharmacy is discarding orange plastic prescription bottles in favor of new recyclable paper bottles that hold the same number of pills and capsules. The switch is part of UVA Health's ongoing campaign to cut down on waste and lower its carbon footprint. "There's a lot of opportunity for waste reduction and recycling within pharmacy practice just naturally," says Pharmacy Supply Manager Carrie Kovacik. "It's been a goal of ours to improve our sustainability within the pharmacy department." The new paper bottles will have the same safety features as the old plastic ones, with the pharmacy vowing to retain its child-resistant protocol.
