AI Camera Allows TFC Recycling to Expand Program to Include Paper

TFC Recycling recently acquired new AI technology that can separate paper products from all other items. The Virginia-based company offers curbside services to over 500,000 households in such cities as Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Through a grant, it was able to purchase a camera that detects paper products on a conveyer belt. Consequently, TFC can add paper to its residential recycling program, which is huge considering Virginia recently banned Styrofoam. TFC Recycling President Michael Benedetto remarks, "What we typically get in is a mix of 60% paper, about 15% bottles and cans including glass, and about 25% wrong items that are going into the container."
