DS Smith Taps ABB for Major Upgrade at Kemsley Paper Mill

DS Smith has selected ABB to deliver a suite of advanced electrification, automation and digital tools for a new stock preparation line at its Kemsley Paper Mill in Kent, U.K. This new initiative is part of a larger, £50 million upgrade aimed at lowering environmental impact, improving operational efficiency and supporting the mill's long-term growth. Under terms of the agreement, ABB will provide its System 800xA distributed control platform, low-voltage motor control centers, drives, motors, safety gear and a performance-monitoring solution designed to enhance asset reliability -- systems that will be integrated into the paper mill's existing infrastructure to create a unified operation.
