US Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Down 11 Percent in December 2025

US printing-writing paper shipments decreased 11 percent in December 2025 versus the same month a year prior, with total year-to-date shipments declining 8 percent, according to the latest American Forest & Paper Association data. Total inventory levels also fell 2 percent from November 2025. Purchases across the three major categories – uncoated free sheet, coated free sheet and mechanical paper – were down 14 percent year over year in October 2025 based on the latest Census Bureau numbers. Finally, mechanical paper purchases registered the biggest individual decrease, falling 18 percent over the same time span.
