Research by Comieco, Seda International Packaging and McDonald's Shows Paper Drives Recycling

According to a new study presented earlier this summer by a collaboration of Comieco, Seda International Packaging Group, and McDonald's, 84 percent of waste generated in fast-food restaurants in Italy is separately collected, with paper packaging achieving an 87 percent recycling rate. Seda President Antonio D'Amato notes, "Over the last few decades, Europe has built one of the world's most advanced circular economy models, and Italy is one of its leading examples." Moving forward, D'Amato urges the fast-food sector to become a powerful laboratory for circular economy innovation. The research, conducted by Ambiente Italia researchers, analyzed waste production and management in seven McDonald's eateries located in Milan, Palermo, Rome, and other Italian cities and towns.
