Total U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Fell 7 Percent in August 2026

The American Forest & Paper Association has published its August 2026 Printing-Writing Monthly study. According to the research, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 7 percent in August versus August 2025. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels went up 1 percent from a month prior. Across the three major printing-writing categories — uncoated free sheet (UFS), coated free sheet (CFS), and mechanical (MECH) — net imports increased 26 percent in July year over year. Individually, UFS augmented 38 percent, CFS rose 51 percent, while MECH net imports increased 13 percent.
